Dean as metrosexual

There are times one looks at things and realizes that times have changed.

Here we have the Democratic front runner claiming to be a straight man with urban sensibilities [essentially gay vibe minus the sex]. If this is an asset in the Democratic nominating process this is one of the clearest signs that we are no longer dealing with the party of FDR, Truman, JFK. JFK was a hot playboy womanizer. Truman was a heartland family man. The new vibe is right out of 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy' on Bravo. This may play in universities and at high roller bicoastal cocktail parties but this is not the way to expand to lunch pail Democrats already turned off by the Democratic Party's main culture wars stands.

The issue is not tolerance or approval or even sex per se. It is whether in wartime the image of a proper commander in chief is the straight guy at a Fire Island party. Giant mention is constantly made of how out of the mainstream the GOP is from the religious and cultural right. The same chattering class seems oblivious to just how out of the mainstream the very word metrosexual is. This is a Lee Atwater attack ad in the making - Bush in his flight suit on the deck of a carrier. Jump cut to Dean pandering with the metrosexual quote the last thing to register on the viewers mind. Jump cut to the WTC and a voice over in the style of Heston or Reagan asking would you trust a metrosexual as commander in chief in wartime. Then let the media explode giving coverage to the ad orders of magnitude beyond the actual placement.

No one seems to get it. There is no minor comment out in the sticks. See Patty Murray or Trent Lott. If more than 10 people are present presume there is an electronic record. Welcome to the happening world.
