The Democrats are within one more primary [probably Wisconsin] of arriving where the Republicans already are. A set of arcane state by state rules and contingent events gave the GOP McCain despite his near total lack of support among many of their core groups. McCain did not even run an especially intelligent campaign. However Guliani and Thompson ran almost textbook bad campaigns and Romney ran a poor one. McCain was saved from this by essentially flaming out the previous summer [he was en route to all of Romney's mistakes]. He was also the official media darling and treated accordingly as a way of showing MSM hatred for Bush.

A similar media crusade coupled with Hillary running the most inept national campaign I have ever seen is about to annoint Obama. Do not believe the tripe of how she can pull it out in Texas and Ohio. The Democrats don't have winner take all states that make such a comeback possible. Obama now has a delegate lead and each little state will just add to it. However Obama has managed to win without establishing any support base among traditional white hereditary Democrats. Without the horse race to report the MSM will eventually have to focus on Obama as more than an uplifting speaker with a biography that makes latte liberals swoon. At some point someone asks 'where's the beef', someone points out that the man's great accomplishment in his adult life was an identity crisis such that despite growing up as Barry he is now again Barrack Hussein.

McCain must bridge an ideological divide between the GOP base and the people who nominated him [moderates, liberals, independents, military families and old people]. The main problem is taht the Movement people just plain do not trust or like McCain. Hence the vote totals yesterday for Huckabee, Ron Paul or indeed anyone but McCain.

Obama must bridge a sociological divide between the latte liberals and the lunch pail Democrats. The MSM keep trumpeting his Latino problem. That is a false issue. They will come home for the general election. The only question is the turnout. However Obama's problem group - older, less educated, lower income lunch pail hereditary white Democrats - are precisely the group in the Democratic coalition most willing to vote Republican on cultural issues when they don't like the Democratic choice given them. The inability of the Democrats to bridge the latte/lunchpail gap is at the core of why despite a nation that is more disposed to liking Democrats than to liking Republicans most Presidents since FDR have been Republicans.
