It had to happen sooner or later but in fact it happened today. If ever a war qualified for Wag the Dog it was Bill and Tony's idiot Kosovar adventure. The Bosnian Serbs are not allowed their own state. The Abkazians and South Osettians are not allowed their own state. I could keep adding entires but the post-1945 mantra is that boundary change without mutual consent is forbidden. Except for the Kosovar Albanians who apparantly are God's special children. The Serbian electorate has just narrowly chosen Europe over irredentist insanity. Their reward is this? If the Kosovars may do this who else is similarly privileged? The Maronites? Somaliland? The Kurds? What have the Albanians done to merit this special treatment. Their heroin dealing? Their sex slave trade? Their ethnic cleansing of the remaining Serbs? I was asked yesterday if this will cause a new Balkan War. Unlikely. Serb economy is in no state for it and [so far] Russia seems content to use rhetoric instead of guns. However please tell me what Western or US interest is served by this? The US did not exactly make this mess but when Europe finishes making hash out of it they will ask Uncle Sugar to bail them out same as the Bosnian War.
