Losing Clemens for the balance of the season [and quite possibly the playoffs] was always a risk given his age. Having essentially no middle relief should not have been. This is the perpetual Yankee 21st century cycle. Start out the season with some decent middle relief and no starting rotation [purchase foreign and National League pitchers who cannot pitch in the AL East]. Burn out the middle relievers covering starters who cannot make it to the fifth inning. Burn out the relievers arms by summer and limp into autumn waiting to be eliminated in round one. Last night was compounded by a season long inability of Yankee pitchers to find the strike zone. I love this team but it is simply not a championship squad.Labels: Yankees

My Yankees managed to lose a game to the worst starter on the Blue Jays today. As has been true all year you never know from inning to inning which Yankee team will show up - Murder's Row 2007 or the Bronx Dead Bat Society. The amazing part is that they seem likely to get the wild card slot. However anyone betting them to make it to the World Series is in dreamland. Streak hitting, indifferent starting pitching and abysmal middle relief are just not the mark of a World Series contender.Labels: Yankees
